Shockwave Strikes Again in Evadale
The third event on the 2019 Good Vibrations Motorsports / Lone Star Forklift Outlaw Fuel Altered Championship tour welcomed the series through the gates of Evadale Raceway on Saturday, May 25th. This was the first time in seven years the series had competed at this unique facility in Southeast Texas and the fans were ready for their nitro fix!
After two qualifying sessions Mary Reep scored her second straight number one qualifying position in a tight field of nine cars. The top three all were stacked at the top with 4.03’s. With the final order complete and pairings set, it was time to play for keeps as teams returned to the pits to prepare for the first round of eliminations.

With the final order complete and pairings set, it was time to play for keeps as teams returned to the pits to prepare for the first round of eliminations.
The first pair found John Broussard’s Louisiana based “Purple Haze” line up with multi-time series Champion Jimmy Jones in the “Texas Tremor” entry. Two heavy hitting alcohol burners crept to the line and the drivers were ready as they both had stellar reaction times off the line. Jones quickly had issues and fell back while Broussard clicked off a nice 3.94 at 177 mph to take the win. Aaron Morrow entered this event with two runner up finishes to start the season in Terry Darby’s “Nitro Relapse” and was paired up with top qualifier Mary Reep. Both drivers were a tad sleepy on the line, but a side by side bout it was with Morrow’s 3.92 at 185 narrowly defeating Reep’s 3.97 at 186 mph. Bobby Marriott was out next on a competition single as his opponent Mark Hunter was unable to make the call. Marriott brought the crowd to their feet with a stellar 3.84 at 188 mph and with one pair to go, secured a spot in the final for team “Shockwave” as one of the two quickest winners of the round. In the final pair, a timing system issue forced teammates Mark Billington and Jody Austin to shutoff. Despite being able to return to the pits for a quick service, when the teams returned to the line to finish the round, Austin’s “BushWhacker” was unable to fire sending Billington on a competition single, resulting in a 3.73 at 198 mph pass just under the series index. It was Marriott and Morrow final round bound in Evadale in an all nitro showdown.

Aaron Morrow was in his third consecutive final looking for his first win of his second season on tour up against the veteran and multi-time Champion Bobby Marriott. The nitro fumes were thick as the cars pulled into the stage beams and crew chiefs walked away after their final adjustments. At the flash of amber, Marriott was off the line first and held the header flames high as Morrow immediately struck the tires at the hit of the throttle. Morrow had the best seat in the house to watch Marriott streak ahead and claim his second win of this young season with a 3.92 at 188 mph
