Shockwave Scores First Win of 2019 at North Star Dragway!
The Outlaw Fuel Altered Association presented by Good Vibrations Motorsports and Lone Star Forklift kicked off their 2019 season at North Star Dragway in Denton, Texas on Saturday, April 20th. The event started off with a special tribute pass to long time OFAA supporter, friend to many and photographer Paul Caster who we lost in the fall of 2018. Bobby Marriott's "Shockwave" nitro burner lined up on a solo pass with the Caster family and OFAA teams gathered on the starting line for this special pass.
With two qualifying sessions in the books, Jimmy Jones "Texas Tremor" entry led the qualifying standings followed by Aaron Morrow, Mary Reep, Jody Austin and Roger Lechtenburg rounded out the top five. Lechtenberg was making a rare OFAA appearance driving Scott & Peggy Gaulter's "Nitro Madness" car from Iowa. Parts attrition took it's tole at this first event sidelining Mark Hunter, Donny McSwain and Clint Cross before the first round of eliminations.

With pairs set for first round it was time to play for keeps as eliminations got underway. Dustin Bradford tallied his first career OFAA round win with a 7.36 when his opponent Tim Cruce was forced to shut off after the burnout with mechanical issues. John Broussard and Mary Reep were out next in an all purple powerhouse alcohol match up as Broussard's 3.91 held off Reep's close 3.94 both at 188 mph. Bobby Marriott and Jimmy Jones fired up next. It takes every bit of two hands to count the amount of OFAA Championships between these two. Marriott posted a clean header flaming 3.89 at 190 mph to advance over Jones' 3.96 at 185 mph. 2018 Rookie of the Year Aaron Morrow wheeled Terry Darby's "Nitro Relapse" into the beams alongside Mark Billington in Raymond Austin's "Magic Dragon" as eliminations continued. Billington ripped off a wicked 3.66 at 194 mph which was just under the index, as Morrow's 3.86 at 191 mph advanced. In the final pair, Roger Lechtenberg clicked off a 4.18 at 185 mph to take out an off pace Jody Austin. Back in the pits, racers and fans were entertained by Elvis themed live music courtesy of BushWhacker racing!
