Marriott Scores Season Ending Win, Austin Clinches 2nd Championship
Thirteen cars attended the 2023 Lone Star Forklift Championship Finals at Xtreme Raceway Park in Ferris, Texas on Saturday, October 7th. Three of them came in with a solid chance at the OFAA Championship as Jimmy Jones, Jody Austin and Bruce Peterson were ready to battle for every possible point they could earn against some stiff competition in the last dance of the year. Raymond Dawson qualified number one and led the field into eliminations where the drama intensified. Of the three title contenders, Jody Austin put down the best run in first round and it was enough to earn himself a spot in the final round. Jimmy Jones came up just short of a trip to the finals against Austin, as Bobby Marriott stole the second ticket to the finals. With his ticket to the final round, Jody Austin simply had to fire the car and do a burnout to clinch the Championship. In a nail biter, Austin's crew was able to get his car to the burnout box with literally seconds to spare. The drama in getting to the starting line combined with the excitement of clinching the Championship likely threw Austin off his game, as his .468 reaction time told the story in the final round. Marriott's quicker but losing 3.97 took the win over Austin's 3.89 as Bobby Marriott and team "Shockwave" scored a big season ending win and Jody Austin's team "BushWhacker" clinched the 2023 Lone Star Forklift Championship!

Under beautiful Texas skies and go fast 75 degree weather, twelve cars made the tow to put on a show at XRP. Points leader Jimmy Jones was looking strong with a number one qualifying effort, but came up short performance wise in first round of eliminations and did not earn a ticket to the finals. Instead, it was the "Midnight Special" entry of Rick Lewelling and Jody Austin's team "BushWhacker" with substitute driver Pete Dove stamping their ticket to the last dance. In the final, Lewelling and company were unable to fire their car and Dove soloed to a strong 3.70 at 201 mph to take the win in his OFAA series driving debut.
